A Comedy with Music in One Act
What happens when an overwhelmed impresario, an opera buff, an “angel,” and two dueling divas collide?
Mozart’s one-act, comic masterpiece is brisk romp full of laughs, high drama, and even higher notes…
In an era when opera was the product of noble excess, ever more extravagant productions demanded ever more ambitious individuals to conceive, organize, and drive them. This is the story of one such man (and a cast of his would-be associates). As opera became increasingly big business, these so-called “impresarios” began to resemble more and more something akin to today’s high-powered CEOs and other such power-brokers. Consider this Mozart’s reflection on a phenomenon which is all too familiar; one which may raise equal parts ire and distaste–though is always best tempered with a tinge of sardonic humor. Let the antics ensue!
